With an average of 280 sunny days per year, Knysna's warm, temperate climate makes it the perfect all-year-round destination. With its Mediterranean climate, summers are moderately hot and winters generally mild. The average summer temperature during the day is 22°C (72.6°F) which falls to 14°C (57°F) at night. In the mid-winter months (June, July and August), days are often mild and warm (19°C / 66°F) but when the sun sets, the air becomes crisp and cold.
It is a high rainfall area which results in the lush greenness of the landscapes and forests and the exquisite show of fynbos flowers in spring and summer every year. Rains falls all year round, peaking in winter and falling mostly at night.
